I am truly excited and honored to have been selected as the principal of Pinecrest Academy – St. Rose. One of the few things I have not done during my ten years of experience as a principal for the Clark County School District is having the pleasure of opening a brand new school. Pinecrest Academy – St. Rose is now giving me that opportunity and I am looking forward to building the best school in Southern Nevada.
I will be tireless in assuring that our students at Pinecrest Academy – St. Rose have the best trained teachers, the best curriculum, and the highest of expectations. Our students will be prepared to succeed in high school so that they have the best opportunities to attend their choice of institution of higher learning. In addition to high quality teachers and instruction, we will build a strong community for all stakeholders; a partnership of teachers, students, parents, and community members. Research proves that community involvement is one key to creating a successful campus.
As a principal, I also believe that “consistency” is vital to running a school and achieving academic success. As I have mentioned before, I have had the privilege of being a principal at various schools in Clark County School District: Halle Hewetson Elementary, Fyfe Elementary and Ronzone Elementary. Halle Hewetson was known as one of the lowest performing schools in the district and later became a High Achieving School for three consecutive years. Having a clear vision, high expectations, and through the hard work of our parents, teachers, students and staff members the school skyrocketed in achievement. The school went from 18% proficiency in reading to 80% and from 20% proficiency in math to 90%. We were recognized as the Title 1 School of the Year in 2011 and as a community we were recognized in Washington DC for our achievements.
My goal here at Pinecrest St. Rose Academy is to work together as a team and create the best charter school in Nevada. In addition, during the 2013-2014 school year I lead the Clark County School District’s English Language Learner Program as an Assistant Superintendent and was responsible for ensuring that over 63,000 students received instructional support in the schools. Although this task was enormous and rewarding, my heart and passion was and is at the school level where I can make the greatest impact with students.
On a personal level, I have three amazing adult daughters and three wonderful grandchildren that I love to spend time with. Family is extremely important to me and I can’t wait to meet all of you and create a new Pinecrest Academy – St. Rose family.
