Update from Mrs. Moreno

Hello, Middle School Families!

While we certainly miss having our students in our building with us, we are excited to take on the challenge of providing them with the most dynamic and engaging virtual experience possible during our time away. Students at St. Rose are fortunate to experience a blended learning environment as a part of our regular educational program, so this transition should be fairly smooth. Every middle school teacher has been working diligently to make all materials accessible digitally in one streamlined online platform: Google Classroom!

Google Classrooms will go live on March 18, 2020. Teachers will be picking up right where they left off with each of their classes last Friday. Students are familiar with this platform and I think you will be surprised by the ease with which they are able to navigate a digital classroom experience.

Your child should have a virtual Google Classroom for each of their core content area classes: Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies. Students will track their attendance in each class by filling out the Daily Attendance form, which they will find a link to in each teacher's Google Classroom.

Students will log in to their Google classrooms everyday to receive approximately 20 minutes of video instruction in each subject. Videos for the day will be updated by 9:30 am each morning. In conjunction with these videos, students will be assigned independent practice assignments, or classwork, which will be submitted through either Google Classroom or Spring Board digital.

In addition, teachers will offer "Office Hours" four times a day - two sessions in the morning and two sessions in the afternoon - for students to ask questions and receive help via video conferencing.

"Office Hours" are as follows:

·             10:00 - 10:15

·             11:00 - 11:15

·             1:00 - 1:15

·             2:00 - 2:15

Ideally, students should maintain a consistent learning schedule each day. This does not necessarily mean sitting down and completing each days' assignments in one sitting. We understand that student schedules may vary due to factors beyond their control. The beauty of this platform and sequencing is that it can be tailored to meet your student's needs. You can reach out to me or any of your child's teachers and we will be happy to help if you would like some guidance in setting up a routine that takes any additional responsibilities or shared tech time into account.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any assistance. I will be happy to answer any questions that you have and work with your family during this time. I admire our community's resilience and am grateful for everyone's dedication to keeping our students educated and productive throughout the course of this closure.

In appreciation,

Nicole Moreno
