Competitive Robotics and/or Study Hall Elective

Interest Form

The Spring Semester is fast approaching and we have some elective changes and opportunities to offer our students. We will no longer be offering the Robotics/STEAM or Battle of the Books electives for the second semester. Instead, we will be offering Competitive Robotics as well as Study Hall elective opportunities. Below you can read a summary of what each course will entail. In order to be considered for either of these courses, a Google Form MUST be filled out by December 7, 2018. Students who are selected will be notified by December 14, 2018.

No other course change requests will be considered at this time.

This new Competitive Robotics elective will be open to students in grades 6-8.  Blending curriculum and project-based learning from our first semester STEAM Robotics elective, Competitive Robotics will offer students the additional opportunity to compete in a 2-day Robotics Championship at Texas Station February 1 & 2, 2019 from 7:00am – 4:00pm.  Course fee includes transportation (1 day field trip), registration, and t-shirt costs for Championship participation.

The Competitive Robotics course will use VEX IQ tools and technology to brainstorm, plan, and build a robot to enter into competition.  To learn more about and to see VEX IQ technology in action, please click on the link provided:

Students must submit an interest form to be considered for placement in this elective course.  Competitive Robotics is an intensive program geared toward students who crave a challenge and those who are willing to commit to the behavior, academic, and time demands of this program.  Students will be selected based upon a review of behavior and academic records with consideration given to prior interest in the Robotics program.

Study Hall/Study Skills (6th Period ONLY)                                                                    Course Fee: $0

1 Semester– offered in Semester 2 beginning Monday, January 7, 2019

Students will have the option to use their elective time as a ‘Study Hall’ to complete homework, work on upcoming assignments, or read.  The Study Skills section of this course is designed to help students become academically organized and utilize their agendas, timelines for projects, and academic tools and technology effectively.
